The day of Farewell !!!

The day had finally arrived. The last two days have been very torturous and I'd slept for about 4hrs in the past 48hrs. This should tell you volumes about how I get excited to do things like these. Last I remember doing something like this was for Parivartan. And this time the partners in crime are the same. Rakshit, Pravin and me. Our farewell event started off in the auditorium with the lectures by prof, followed by a dance program, a song and a skit by the seniors. Our movie was scheduled to be screened next when the LCD projector played foul.

It was painful to see all our hardwork going down the drain due to an antiquated projector. We should've kept that in mind but it was too late to arrange for an alternative. Despite lot of efforts by my friends the projector failed to cooperate and we had to scrap the movie screening as we were getting late for the disco and dinner.

After that we moved to China Garden for our disco. This place was a good change from the usual RPM and had enticing ambience with cute-looking-candles everywhere. I was a bit depressed to enjoy the ambience but after a couple of vodka shots and vodka tonics, I found myself high on life and love with the surroundings.

The seniors had commended on our efforts for the film and were equally disappointed for not being able to watch the movie. But then, by that time I was comfortably numb and was waiting for Prashant to drop me to the hostel.

The farewell video

We are throwing a farewell party for our seniors on 24rth Apr. That means a rocking party with unlimited booze. For the lazy bums like me, its one helluva time coming up. It should be good break for all of us as most of us have been working late nights to finish our term papers which don't seem to show any hopeful signs of completion.

Specially for people like me (who believe in delaying things as much as possible), this period is usually filled with high-intensive activity, stretching to the max by skipping sleep for consecutive days.

Amidst all this I find rakshit (who is a member of my BECS term paper) dreaming away to glory in the class.

Me - "Dude...we hardly have time ...gotto start and finish the BECS term paper by tonight. We gotto sit down today at any cost. So what do you say ??"

Rakshit - "Abe tu tension mat le... woh baad mein kar lenge ...we got something more important to bother about...we have our farewell party coming up ??"

Me - " Forget it dude.. I don't want to get into anything...All I want now is to finish off the BECS term paper...Nothing in this world can be more important than this ??"

Rakshit - " Tu pehle mera bat toh sun le "

Me - " No way ... There's no way we can delay this..."

Rakshit - " Abey... sun to le... Our seniors would be leaving soon, I guess we need to do something to make their farewell more memorable"

Me - " Oh yeah...Our classmates are already singing, dancing and planning a skit.. I guess there's nothing more we can do for it and specially me "

Rakshit - " What about a movie ???"

Me - " Are you nuts ?? Movie ?? Now ?? With all these pending term papers ?? With just two days left for the farewell party ?? .... But where do we get a camera to shoot ?? "

And that left Rakshit grinning with a sense of achievement.

This is how I am...veeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyy lazy. But there are few things that can spur me into action instantly and this bloody idiot is one who knows what drives me..

So that's it .. asked sumit (another lazy bum) to take care of the term paper while we went off to shooting.

Nerd Test Result !!!

Usually I dont like to blog the god-knows-what-tests that claim to tell you something about you, that you probably might have never heard in your life.

Most of these tests seem to lack credibility by asking you some unrelated questions. But this seemed to be different and credible to a large extent. So here it goes ...this is what it has to say about me...

Overall, you scored as follows:

13% scored higher (more nerdy), and
87% scored lower (less nerdy).

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:

High-Level Nerd. You are definitely MIT material, apply now!!!.

Its Gone !!!

We had a wonderful time together pedalling through the muddy and bumpy roads.
It was my only hope whenever I used to get bogged down by the distances I had to cover. Though it deserved much better treatment from me, it never failed me.

And today I wake up to find it missing. It had been stolen. My BICYCLE.

Flashback
During my first month @ IIT, I had to do a lot of walking (about 5km everyday) and for a guy like me (whose avg daily walking distance was less than 100m) it was a nightmare. Legally, bikes are not allowed in the campus and if found one the security would chain it and you'll have to shell out a grand to get it released. This was when I had bought cycle.

Sounds weird, but I was forced in to lodge a complaint for the loss of my bicycle. God knows how they intend to recover it, the fact being that there are more than 4000 cycles in the campus.

My friends are excited with this as they hope that this would force me to shed my laziness by forcing me to walk but what they dont realize is the amount of hardwork i used to put in pedalling it everyday.

Anyway ...for now....
"I walk a lonely road the only one that I've ever known. Dont know where it goes but its home to me and I walk alone"

HouseDay !!!

This is one day when...
....you can look forward to have food in your hostel mess.
....girls are allowed to come to boys hostel.
....you can invite them to your hostel, ogle at the others and if you're lucky and courageous enough you can take them to your room too.

Its the season of house days in the IIT where everyone's invited to every hostel for its house day (read as good food, ice-cream and lots of chics).

Had attended the House-day of Nilgiri hostel today and it was colorful ;). Food although tasted bland, the dessert made up for it .

One funny thing about today's house day was when the director of IIT was invited to talk and give some message and obviously not even the guy who invited him to give a talk was paying any attention to what he had to say. So, he had to repeatedly stress for everyone's attention. He finally blurted that one should not call guests for talk when no one is interested in listening to the talk. That was one helluva piece of advice :P. He should've known that if it wasnt for the food and chics there wudnt have been such a huge turnout.

Some of the students gave a rock show which made me feel guilty for not being able to learn even a single instrument so far :(. Hope I'd resume my guitar-learning very soon ....

Rafting @ Rishikesh !!!

A.W.E.S.O.M.E - That's how our Rafting trip was. One hell of an amazing experience and a must for everyone. Started off on Saturday and reached there by afternoon after a tiring journey.

Our base camp had a series of tents just about a fifty feet away from the river. It was totally surrounded by mountains with the river flowing beside it. The lovely surroundings and the scenic beauty mesmerised me so much that I almost spent an hr just watching the entire surroundings while the rest of them were played volleyball. Then we explored the surroundings clicking pics while some of them decided to take a plunge in the river.

We had made a quick a trek to the nearby mountain while the guide tried to scare us with some of his ''encounters with the ghost'' stories. On returning we had our dinner and pulled our beds out and slept under the sky.

The next day started with the river rafting session and it was amazing except for the rowing. It almost paralysed my hands. The rapids were intense and had some weird names ( dunno how people named and remember them ). We rafted almost for 2hrs and reached our base camp for our lunch. From there we continued our rafting which proved to be even more challenging and dangerous. At one of the rapid one guy from our raft fell off and hit the rocks, he was lucky enough to escape it with some minor scrapes.

The body surfing was an amazing experience. I was so excited to get into water that my friends named me "Tortoise - Active in water and lazy on land" (Well, that should give you an idea how lazy I can be). The water was very cold but couldn't keep me off it and swam away to glory in the holy Ganges. Soon we reached a cliff, which was high enough to take a deep dive into the river. Hesitated a bit initially, but after watching some of my friends diving, I decided to dive and the experience was both horrifying and hilarious. But after the dive I could feel a great sense of achievement of conquering my fear of diving :).

Soon we reached the end of our rafting where we packed the raft and brought it to shore. We quickly changed and started off as we had to reach the Delhi-border by 12 in the night to avoid some-god-forsaken tax. The vodka-mixed drinks set off the mood for a non-stop singing session and provided relief to the almost paralysed limbs and also made us invulnerable to the horrible driving of the driver.

The disappointing LIVE episode !!!

Woke up at 11.am and started my usual routine of checking my mails and orkut scraps when i get call from Anu.

"Vicky, where r u ?? can you come down to the main gate ?? We've got channel X and Y at the main gate for some media coverage and come down ASAP."

That ASAP (As soon as possible) sounded very genuine, so pulled out a shirt and a pant from the pile of clothes (that i had set aside for the laundry almost one week back) and reached the main gate.

Was asked to stand along with the others who had come for the same. The anchor was a young chap (maybe a couple of years younger to me) announced that in a couple of minutes he'd be getting a call from the studio and would ask a couple of questions to which we had to respond and this would be aired LIVE on the channel.

Wooow. Sounded very exciting as this was the first time I would be on TV and that too LIVE !! . We had to respond to the reservation issue that's in the process of formulation. The feed is got over in a couple of minutes and was relieved as I had just finished my first appearance on TV :D. Though fumbled a bit in the end (c'mon...what do you expect out of a debut appearance :P) , it was kinda okay.

After this, the guy approached and asked us to hang around as he'd have to give live feeds for the bulletin that would be aired every half an hr till 2:30pm, that meant almost 5 live feeds giving the same responses. When I asked him as to why he cant air the same feeds again and again, he said the channels no more believe in telecasting anything but LIVE. So it doesnt really matter if the responses are the same as long as its LIVE !!!. That was some hell of a news to me .

Then we had another channel that was making a proper 30-min programme on the same issue with a group of ten students. The anchor distributed a paper that had points which we could speak (just in case if we didnt have any ...and all these days I'd been wondering howcome every tom-dick-n-harry had some viewpoint to talk on TV). All of us had spoke our points without any fumble but the anchor wasnt happy. She was disappointed with our histrionic skills and wanted us to put in more fury and anguish into our talk ( well ..how else do you intend to make an issue hot-n-spicy).

All this seemed to overshadow the orginality of our views and thoughts. Added to this, the scorching heat was making me feel dizzy. So slowly slipped off from that place with pravin as we'd better things to do than posing in front of cameras.

Well as for me...it wasnt as fun and exciting as I expected it to be and decided not even to bother about another TV programme that was scheduled in the evening.

Hit him baby one more time !!!

Sumit's B'day - This was special one for many reasons. But mostly coz , its the first b'day that was celebrated properly ( read it as pizzas, cake, chox and most importantly B'day bumps) that I witnessed in DMS.

We gorged ourselves on the cake and guys were having a tough time finishing it. Once we were done with that the actual action started with the birthday bumps and smearing Sumit's face with the cake (Usually I'm against smearing cake on the faces, but this time I had so much of cake that the only way of exhausting it seemed to be by smearing it.)

Then the rest of the guys poured in and helped us in delivering high-intensity kicks on sumit's (you know what). The funniest part was all this while, pravin (the one is red t-shirt) threw a gauntlet saying that all of us would be busy with our summers for his b'day and would be saved from the birthday bumps. And before even he could realize what had conspired against him, heavy kicks were being delivered on his (again-you-know-what) after which he became wise enough to keep his mouth shut :)).

But I guess this aint over...seems like we'd be going to a disco(as sumit would like to put it) today which would culminate his b'day party. So waiting for it...

Alumni Meet !!!

Phew..Just back from our alumni meet and it really rocked. Though it might sound cliched, the pic to right will speak volumes about it. Started off late but picked up momentum as it progressed. Then the alumni was given a presentation about how DMS has evolved over the years and the changes that they couldn't witness.

The jazzy classrooms and a dedicated building were something new for most of the alumni. Had some decent interaction after which the dinner followed. Yeah in between the alumni did manage to shake a leg to some peppy tunes.

How fast time flies and how hard it is to keep a track of it. Its been less than a year since we've been here and it just feels like a couple of weeks and now in about a year we would be preparing ourselves to graduate from this place, for which (right now) we're stretching as much as possible to strengthen its brand. Though promised myself to attend almost every alumni-meet, deep inside I know how hard it is to live up to it.

Anyway, life goes on .... and me off to a marathon sleeping session.
