Majors are back

The most dreadful period of my stay @ IIT Delhi is back. Yeah ..its the majors. This time majors are no different but the completion of majors would jolt everyone into action. I'm talking about the placements that would begin from the next day of our majors.

So lots of things are at stake and cant afford to be complacent atleast at this juncture.

So guys its time to study and prepare for placements. Hope to blog and keep everyone as much updated as I would like to but then again, I hope you guys know what these tense and pensive period can do to anyone.

Chalo then ..let me end here and will be back after majors.

Wish me goodluck...ciao.

Back with a shiver !!!

The winter is back in Delhi and like everytime its shivery. Its almost the same every year but then this year its late by atleast a fortnight. Don't know much technicalities about its delay but I was quite happy with it.

The chill running through my nerves makes me even more lazy and unproductive (not that I'm otherwise when the weather's good). I really had a tough time clearing the dusty winter wear that I had stuffed in my closet.

At times I wonder if Delhi is actually cursed with such bone-rattling winters. Just imagine what exactly the winter does to a normal layman. To start off with
  • It decreases the productive hours of work (coz most of the time you feel like cuddling yourself in a warm blanket.) Take care of the calculations and you'd realize thats a huge loss of business that could've been made by the city.
  • It affects the transportation system (Halting of flights, trains, traffic on account of non-visibility due to fog). Just imagine the cost of the goods stuck on roads and trains. The executives who aren't able to do their business due to flight delays. That's quite a volume.
  • It also encourages people to stay home which in a way affects the entire business the city usually makes.
  • Increase of electricity consumption due to usage of electric room heaters (this would be huge to make up by the non usage of ACs)

Gosh...I guess someone can actually finish a doctorate by doing a thesis on the above calculations. I'm sure there must be some kinda models to do that..

I guess thats all I can post right now and time to wrap myself and feel cozy (see I'm already affected ;)).

Is Indian Economy Booming ??

Gosh..That's probably one of the peculiar questions anyone could ever ask me because...

Firstly, you'll end up forcing me to justify a fact that's quite obvious even to the dumbest person imaginable.

Secondly, you'll also have to bear the brunt hearing a lot of weird jargon, theories, matrices, analysis, graphs, facts etc. supporting the answer. Don't blame me, that's precisely why I would be paid after a 2yr stint of MBA education. (I might be generalizing a bit but then, it's still true).

Ask the question to anyone and you're bound to get the same answer in different contexts..For example,
  • A stock broker might suggest you to have a look at the skyrocketing SENSEX.
  • A railway person would suggest you to look at the number of people graduating from trains to flights
  • A mobile phone vendor might suggest you to look at the evergrowing mobilephone connections.
  • A minister might suggest you to have a look at the various investments that the nation is attracting in different forms.... And on and on

And to answer the question in my context, I would suggest you to look at the average compensation that is being offered to an MBA graduate at our campus.

Yes, its the placement season and this time its bigger than I could have ever imagined. The companies visiting the campus have hiked their packaged almost on an average of 20%. To top that, they've also increased the higher rungs of management for the MBA graduates which is quite surprising and welcoming (specially for the guys who have a rich workexperience to back).

Talking about booming Indian economy, it is also can be corroborated by the number of family-owned companies that are trying to look at corporatising their business and contemplating overseas operations at the same time. These companies have started right by looking to hire the right guys (The MBAs).

Today companies are ready to go to any extent to attract the right talent. For instance, today the companies have managed to fly its top management (besides its HR) to the campus to show flashy presentations backed by a professional video about the organization and also to have a high tea with the students for an informal interaction. To add to this, some companies are also bringing along its new recruits who had joined their organization in the previous year to get a different perspective. This is just amazing, something that I never thought to be a part of the entire MBA package.

If you ask me if I'm happy with all this?? I can shout at the top of my voice that I'm thrilled. Infact I feel very fortunate to be able to get out of a bschool at this time where the economy seems to be at an all-time-best.

But this had also left me confused, in a sense that, since all the companies other than IT are also promising a lucrative package, I now dont mind selling tractors or soaps or textile or technology. Almost every sector seems interesting and challenging but unable to figure out a clear criterion for selection.

So as of now all I can do is to trust my instinct and stick to IT companies coz that's what I've been comfortable with so far and can better relate under any circumstances.

That's all for now... Will keep posting more on the placements.

Confused :(

Confused as I am due to the various issues that are currently going through my mind, I seem to be using this as an excuse for my slothfulness. Right now some of the issues that are currently troubling me are...

  • JLPT exam on Dec 3rd
  • Major exams starting on Nov 27th
  • Term paper submissions by Nov 15th
  • Preparation for Placements
  • CV building
  • Guitar classes etc.

But the only things I'm able to do right now is to while away the time just thinking to do something about them and ending up doing zilch for the same.

We have an 'Alumni Speaks' event coming up this sunday where our seniors would come and share their perspectives about the corporate world and expecting some gyan for our placements.

Anyways let's see how i fare with the list of issues mentioned above. Wish me luck.
