Minors again !!!

They are back again. This time with a lesser vehemence (courtesy - the subjects that I had chose for this semester). But nonetheless are very important.

Also this happens to be my last chance to hype-up my paltry CGPA so that I can look 'worth considering' to the companies which would come down to recruit us sometime in the december. So no way I can afford to screw up this time.

So guys...wish me luck !!!

Ciao...

Ooops.... I did it !!!

Many a times in my life, whenever I had an opportunity to test my abilities, I always used to shirk them. I am still not sure if it was because of the fear of failure or my laziness that should be blamed, but I always comforted my ego with the fact that if only I wasn’t lazy. What if I lacked abilities and was covering up with my laziness ?? Well could be true but that thought was ostracized as it hurt my ego a lot.

Anyways...coming to the point, I never used to bother about any events that call for paper-presentations, bplans, quizzes etc. I always used to discard such concepts as being purely academic and hence were hardly of any interest to me. This was primarily due to lack of highly-motivated company around me. And most of the times the motivation had to be too high to make up for my laziness. So this semester started off as usual with the boring classes most of which I missed as I was busy slumbering in my cozy room. But a week back, there was this ' National Level Paper Presentation contest' based on the summer internship done by students from bshools all over India during the summer. The topic despite being very relevant to my summer internship project couldn’t evoke any enthu in me to give it a shot. But just two days before the last date of submission, one of my juniors who was a part of the organizing team insisted on me submitting an entry as there was no representation from my bschool. Well that did make me feel bad and after a lot of internal conflict with my innate laziness, I decided to give it a shot and convinced Pravin (my alter-ego in terms of laziness) to help me out with this.

To start off with, things seemed pretty easy coz, I already had my summer internship report and had to just reformat to send it in the required format. But that was just the start..We had to reanalyze my project all over in terms of the variables and parameters as instructed by the contest. After an entire nightout, we somehow managed to send it in time. That really took quite an effort from us and in line with our expectations, our entry got shortlisted and had about a week's time to give the final presentation in front of the jury.

This was the hardest part, we had to miss sleep for almost 3 consecutive nights to gather more information to backup our case and spent another three days in perusing documents and making the presentation. We were done with our presentation just 2 hrs before the contest and hardly had any time to rehearse our presentation. Then, hoping against hope we reached the venue.

There were three other teams besides us and each of us had 15 min to present followed by Q&A session. We were the second team to present and screwed up a bit on our timing and presentation and were quite disappointed with our effort in presenting. Soon all the teams were done with their presentations and there was a brief break before the results were out. We were pretty sure that all we would be able to gain out of all this would be a sumptuous lunch that was soon to follow after valedictory address.

Though we put up 'its-all-over' looks on our faces, somewhere in my heart I was hoping something to happen, some miracle. And voila...as if someone had read my thoughts...our entry was awarded the second prize. It was an amazing feeling to walk-up to the dais to receive the prize. One irony about this was that the person who awarded me the prize was my prof who had given me 'C' in his course in the previous semester. All the incidents where he chided me for my low attendance (read 30%) suddenly ran before my eyes. Anyway receiving it from him made me feel even better.

So that's it... seems like I finally broke the jinx and there stands an attractive addition to my CV which hardly had anything worth mentioning in 'Academic Achievements' section. Hope to rev it up even more in the coming days.

So this was what had kept me occupied for the past one week.

That’s all for now. Signing off to celebrate with 'Seagrams - Fuel'.

Cheers !!!

Play KlueLess

This is one of the games that had been based on the popular game ‘Notpro’ from deathball.net. I’m sure many of you have tried your luck in clearing the mind-boggling levels in the puzzle game. Well let me get back to the game I’ve been hooked upon for the past 3 nights.

‘Klueless’ is a game designed by IIM-Indore guys for their annual b-school festival ‘IRIS’ which acts as a prelude to their festival.

Link for klueless game - http://iimi-iris.com/iris/irising/klueLESS/

Link for discussion of klueless game - http://iimi-iris.blogspot.com/2005/11/klueless-discussion.html (you just can’t play the puzzle without this link)

Make sure to read the hints and rules before you hit the game - http://iimi-iris.blogspot.com/2005/12/broad-hints-for-klueless-and-some.html

Despite all the hints, you might encounter suicidal tendencies at various levels for not being able to crack despite getting everything right. In such cases you would do better to remember me. By the way, I managed to clear all the thirty levels of the game along with a couple of my friends in three days. That should give you some idea about the toughness of the game.

Disclaimer: I cannot be held responsible for any sort of damage that you might suffer in terms of wastage of time, brain torture, frustration pangs or anything of this sort while playing the game. Play at your own risk. Do ping me through comments if you need klueless hints and answers.

Life @ DMS

All the way while traveling from hyd to Delhi, my mind was deluged with errant thoughts about the unsupervised life and biological clock at DMS. I was kinda scared and excited at the same time as everyday in Delhi starts with an impalpable nothingness and it’s only with the gradual lapse of time certain priorities and schedules get fixed for the day.

And that’s how things are over here. Had got a single room in the first floor and that is more than a reason to be happy about the good start for the semester. Secondly, I had to get my priorities right so that I could add/drop courses for my semester and hence decide my specialization. After much deliberate thinking, I had listed down the courses and to my amazement I had found that there is hardly any subject where I'll have to slog my a$$ off and the semester looks pretty cool and promising to accommodate my extracurricular activities. Doing MBA couldn’t have been any simpler: P.

We have juniors in the campus and sounds a lot of work for us in terms of briefing and get them motivated before they snuggle themselves through the 'system' over here.

So that’s it. My specialization finally looks like this
Major - IT
Minor - Marketing / Operations

Phew... some work that was.... anyways...that’s all from my side...

End of Honeymoon !!!

Well...I'm sorry for the misleading title but frankly, the experience was nothing short of it (not that I had experienced it earlier...but I’m sure about it). For the uninitiated, I'm referring to my vacation @ Hyd which formally ends today and tomorrow morning I head off to Delhi to continue my so-called education.

With today, I lose all my privileges of a pampered-spoilt-brat and have to start doing things all by myself :(. From tomorrow, there would be no one to....
- feed me despite my hunger levels,
- tell me to get proper sleep even after sleeping for more than 10 hrs a day,
- fund my lavish expenses despite my jobless status,
...in simple words, I wouldn’t be having my parents around me to take care of me and the thought itself makes me scared.

But then...life's like that... Expecting bare essential luxuries from life has become more of a sacrilege than a necessity.

Whatever...hope to be able to blog as soon as I settle down in Delhi.

Ciao...

Back from Chennai

It’s been a one helluva trip to chennai despite being very short. Caught up with my brother and managed to make a quick trip to 'Mahabalipuram' too. Chennai was a bit hotter than Hyderabad and thankfully wasn’t sultry. It was kinda pleasant with intermittent showers greeting me.

Mahabalipuram was stunningly beautiful. It was a great sight to view the ancient structures which I always used to wonder as kid in my history class. The temples were intact and so were other structures. For a moment I could feel all the details my history sir strained to teach us, come to life in front of me. The history attached to it was even more insightful which gave me gooseflesh. The shops dotting the coastline of Mahabalipuram were equally interesting in terms of the handicrafts they had to sell to the tourists. Thanks to my mom's negotiation skills, she could manage 60-70% cut on the exorbitant prices quoted by the vendors.

Had a look at the 'Kovalam Beach' which was on the way back to chennai. It was kinda busy with fishermen unloading their load and bargaining a price for it. The smooth sand on the beach was bright and clean unlike the beach in chennai. Then had to rush back to be able to board the train on time.

For all those who've never been there, I would suggest to quickly scan the calendar for the available dates and make a trip. You're bound to be thrilled and don’t forget to thank me then :)

But it had been all fun for me. I was down with fever from the moment i had boarded the train and saw through the entire trip by surviving on pills and pain-killers. It was only after reaching Hyderabad I was diagnosed with a mild case of 'Chikungunya'.

Hope to get well soon so that I can reach DMS in perfect health and spirit.
